 When they are mounted and laid out all together, the works that make the Urban Window cycle offer us a vision of city life which is quite different from daily experience and hints at hope. Just imagine your life at the heart of a densely populated settlement as future cities might, or most probably will be like. Enormous expanses of buildings, skyscrapers, but also of slums (favelas) where dim reality is just a combination of noise, traffic and smog.
This is the scenario that seems to be altering the layout of our planet where, in relatively few years, urbanisation has been sweeping away rural life. It is therefore through the city windows created by Brigitta Rossetti that the world should be looked at to recover the need to breathe and hope inspired by the virtual and real windows that allow the artist to look at the outside world around her, where nature still plays a leading role.
She lingers on tiny details and signs of an environment which seems to have disappeared in many corners of the world, but for which we still feel a strong need. There are hints at pets and tame animals such as dogs, cats and hens amidst the recesses scanned through those windows. There are flowers that tangle up so as to create face profiles, there are birds that overtly evoke the idea of freedom. There is Brigitta Rossetti's world, the fruits of her peace of mind laboriously attained which she now wants to be shared.
The 40 compositions of the cycle are windows of the soul meant to help us tackle our life and painted on blotting paper pasted onto expanded polyethylene with black, white and grey hues, to capture light, sometimes on sometimes off, yet light in any case. Light that people are always on the pursuit of, if they want to go on living.
